Jan. 1st, 2011 11:18 pmIt's been just over two months since Carlotta went back to the circus. She and Will are still having the time of their lives, loving the open road and all on it.
Since Teja's warning, Carlotta has been trying to look out for snippets of news. It's surprisingly difficult to get hold of a newspaper, with everything that's going on. She finds herself volunteering to ride out for groceries quite often.
Sometimes, she finds a paper, and finds some speculative stories. But then, these sell papers, don't they?
As the month passes, the circus has to stop in a rural location, when the elephant becomes unwell and unfit to travel. There isn't a lot of news, since the source of food is a farm shop. As such, it's not until they reach Birmingham that they get any word from the outside world at all.
They're normally cheered through the streets. But this time, people are sober and worried. They don't even stop to look at the elephant. A few stop to stare at Will though, and the other men in the circus.
And then someone throws a rock at Will. Carlotta reaches out and catches it.
"Oi!" She yells. "What's the meaning of that?"
"Shame on him!" the woman shouts. "He should be out serving the country!"
"Why, what's happened?" Will asks.
"Don't you know there's a war on?"
