Oct. 3rd, 2010 09:57 pmNo train for the start of this term; instead, they set off extra early and arrive at Will's house just before lunch. Grandma and her father have found out about the engagement, and wish to have serious discussions with Mr and Mrs Frances about the arrangements.
Mrs Frances greets Carlotta with a delighted hug and a kiss on both cheeks, showing her support.
In fact, the dinner goes unexpectedly well. Grandma seems quite taken by the Frances family, and decides that they're decent sort of folk. Better than Carlotta finding a husband in the circus, in her opinion.
They agree to meet again near the end of term. Carlotta hopes they won't have had time to think of ways to stop the wedding by then.
The words of those who told her it's too soon stick in the back of her mind. But with Will occupying her thoughts from the moment she wakes to the moment she sleeps, the doubts don't feature that loudly.
