'Dear Carlotta,
Please find enclosed the list of fourth form option subjects. You are required to choose three and post the form back at least a week before the start of next term.
You may only choose one subject from each line. If you wish to do a combination that is not possible from this, it may be possible to change at the start of term, but you may have to take an evening class and must speak to your Form mistress at the beginning of term.
You will be taking the following compulsory subjects in your fifth year exams:
Maths
French
English
Science
Latin
Please choose from the following subjects:
Line 1: History, Home Economics (textiles), Geography, Art, RS, German
Line 2: Home Economics (food), Music, History, Geography, RS, Greek
Line 3: RS, Carpentry, History, Geography, Spanish
Even if you do not select them as an option, you will still have at least one compulsory lesson each week in RS and Home Economics (food), and you may if you wish have one lesson a week in Music and Art. Physical education, as always, will be six days a week.
Please be prepared for a one to one meeting with your form tutor at the beginning of next term to discuss your plans for the future. It does not matter if you don't yet know what you want to do, your teachers are on hand to help and advise you.
I look forward to seeing you in the new term.
Miss Theobald'
Carlotta's grandmother peers over her shoulder.
"Goodness, child, I hope you weren't going to send that back without discussing it with us?"
She sits down and takes the paper, reading it through.
"Well, since you've proven you have no aptitude for Greek, you had better pick History, Geography and Religious Studies." she says.
