Carlotta follows her grandmother down the lane to the vicarage. The old lady hasn't been very happy since seeing that every one of her teachers made remarks about her manners, and how low down she is in the form.

Carlotta protested this, and was told off for answering back.

Then she was told off for talking to the farmer's children over the hedge.

Then she was told off for complaining about being told off all the time.

She feels right now that she's not even been given a chance, though at least this particular trip is to see someone she is allowed to socialise with. What could be wrong with a vicar's daughter after all? Carlotta smirked slightly when she heard where they were going; she knew from experience that not all vicar's daughters were so very well behaved.

The smirk fades rapidly when they get there, and she realises to her dismay that it actually is the same vicar's daughter.

Carlotta Brown and Prudence Arnold stare at one another, and then at their respective adults.

"Go on, get to know each other." Carlotta's grandmother says severely, shooing them off. Prudence grabs Carlotta's arm and pulls her upstairs to her lavishly decorated bedroom.

"You just wait until I tell everyone what you are!" she snaps nastily. "Nothing but a low-down circus girl! You'll never have friends here."

"I'll just tell them you were expelled from one of the finest schools in the country then." Carlotta replies smoothly.

"Is that your grandmother?" Prudence replies in turn, with a malicious air. "Because I'd bet she'd love to know about all your slapping incidents at school."

At the sound of a loud crash a few minutes later, the adults downstairs moved up to investigate, and were most astonished to find Carlotta in the process of boxing Prudence's ears.
