fiery_ringThe crowd is the biggest ever, cheering and shouting inside the bright canvas tent as the show gets underway.
Carlotta swings, and it's like she's flying again as she swoops on the trapese, then flies through the air with a somersault, ready and perfectly aligned for the other trapese.
As she gets to it, her hands pass straight through the bar. She hears the crowd gasp, feels herself fall, looks down at the safety net...
...the net isn't there, it's just a hole, a fiery abyss leading down and down into the Earth, and she sees the crowd whizz past, then rock, then blackness, terrible blackness...
...she screams...
...she lands somewhere hot, fiery and red, almost able to smell the sulphur. Somehow, she stands, and looks around. There are people screaming...
She runs towards the one that she recognises, the one that looks like her, but older, and burning, and she tries to pull her out, but she can't get any closer... and she can't get closer to the others.
There is a man to her left. She runs to him.
"Help me get them out! Please! I... I think that's my mum, and I know that's my father and my grandma and his Highness and Demeter..."
The man turns and points to the wall, where, burning in red letters are the words:
'Honour thy father and thy mother'
Carlotta screams as she wakes in the unfamiliar room. She looks around, shaking and scared, before dropping next to the school uniform and starting to put it on...
She holds the dress, coming slowly back to reality. And then begins to cry.
